Event Details

Reland and the UK celebrate Mothers Day in April, The USA in May. Here is a wee bit of Irish info on the history of Mother's Day. As we cater the events at the Pub it is so much easier for us to know in advance what to expect, so advance ticket sales are a great help. If you have any questions please fell free to email me annie@tnnirishpub.com or call me direct on 919 798-9881. The menu is NOT set in stone, if there is something your Mother would like that is NOT on this menu, let me know, we are here for you. If Mom has a Gluten allergy for example we can work out a Gluten free menu. Every Sunday we have local Traditional Irish players stop in to share their music and songs, it's unplugged so very low key and relaxing afternoon. We also have a beautiful Pub Garden and we would be happy to serve tea out there.

We look forward to seeing you. Happy Mother's Day.

History of Mother's Day in Ireland

The history of celebrating Mothering Sunday or Mothers Day in Ireland can be traced to the medieval practice where children from poor families were send to work as domestic servants and apprentices to work with the rich. Once in the year in the middle of the Lent these children were given a day off to visit their 'Mother Church' and worship Virgin Mary. After visiting the Mother Church or Cathedral of their home town these children visited their mothers and presented them with flowers they picked along the way. Girls bake special Mothering Cake on the day. Pattern of living changed after the Industrial Revolution and Mothering Sunday celebration almost lapsed. The custom was revived after World War II. Americans too helped to bring back the charm of the festival in Eurpoean countries as their tradition and way of celebrating Mothers Day spread far and wide.

It is a day to pamper your birth Mother or a Mothering figure in your life.
