Come on this fun tour to learn all about downtown Raleigh's cool murals and public art!

Event Details

If you have been on our original Downtown Raleigh Murals & Public Tour, you will love our second public art tour route with NEW material!!

This tour leaves the starting point VERY quickly so that we can start seeing all of the fabulous art, so PLEASE be on time! If you are late, you can catch up with us by crossing over to the opposite side of Hargett St. and going into Nash Square. We will view 2 murals in Nash Square and then we will cross Martin St. and stop in front of Whiskey Kitchen. After that, the tour will proceed down Martin St. to the east (i.e. toward Fayetteville St.).

This tour is pay-what-you-want ! If you enjoy the tour, please compensate your guide appropriately! CASH ONLY please! Usually, the guide receives $15 to $20 per adult, but you are free to give more or less than that, depending on how you feel about your tour. As you can imagine, the tour guide has to work hard to earn your appreciation!

Tours have always been pay-what-you-want, but advance registration is now REQUIRED. If you do not sign up through Eventbrite for a spot on the tour, you will not be allowed to participate.

This cool downtown tour takes you off the beaten path and shows you some of Raleigh’s best and most vibrant large scale art works! The main focus of the tour is on Raleigh’s creative murals, but we will also see and learn about some other cool public art, including the statue of our city’s namesake. Be sure to bring your camera so that you don’t miss out on all the great photo opportunities!

If you haven’t been on our original public art tour, you can check it out here:

PLEASE NOTE: This tour lasts approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes, but may be slightly longer depending on the size and speed of the group. We will start at the southeast corner of Hargett and McDowell Sts., across the street from Nash Square. The closest mappable address to the starting point is 127 W. Hargett St. (i.e., the Professional Building).

The tour will end near Poole'side Pies at 428 S. McDowell St. The end point is 3 blocks away from the starting point. There will not be any restroom breaks or stops for food/drinks.

Please plan your parking accordingly. Free street parking is available on weekends. The closest parking deck is the Wake County parking deck, located at 216 W. Cabarrus St., on the corners of Davie, McDowell and Cabarrus streets. Vehicular entrances are located on Cabarrus and Davie streets. This deck is 2 blocks away from the starting point and 1 block away from the end point of the tour.

Finally, this route will be completely brand new to the vast majority of people! However, if you attended the original art tour prior to the start of the pandemic in March 2020, there were 3 pieces of art at the end of that route that you will see for a second time on this new tour. The original tour was shortened in March 2020 and no longer visits these works of art. So there will be some slight overlap for anyone who attended the original art tour in its early days, and I apologize for this small amount of repetition!

The mural in the photo accompanying this listing is by local artist Robert Quinn. It is untitled, but is often referred to as Wild NC.
