Event Details
Experience "one of the most prolific musicians in the industry today" using the rare and innovative percussion instrument called the "Slappaphone". Listeners around the world are intrigued by this instrument's unusual sound and shape. When asked about the instrument Kahlil says, “ It called me when I first heard it and it has become my voice…offering its rhythm and melody to the listener.”
His music is narrative expressions of Africa, Asia, Europe, North and South America and beyond. Feel the energy flow from Jazz to Folk, Rock to Hip Hop, Classical to World Music and Spoken Word to Spiritual. Through Kahlil's layering of common sounds with unique rhythms, his music represents the unity of all cultures.
His work for other musicians, as well as his renditions of his own compositions, can be heard almost daily on jazz and world music radio programs worldwide.
His talent is featured on 2 recently Grammy nominated CDs; Jazzmeia Horn’s “ Dear Love” and Don Braden's "Earth, Wind, and Wonder".
His mastery of percussion has led him to record, perform and accompany jazz greats such as Baba Olatunji, Ron Carter, Dee Dee Bridgewater , Roy Hargrove, Stefon Harris and two-time Grammy nominated Russell Gunn’s group Ethnomusicology.
His work as a percussionist for the legendary Roberta Flack allowed him the opportunity to work with other music icons, Peabo Bryson, Ashford and Simpson and the late Luther Vandross and James Ingram.
His unique talent also allowed him to work with Bilal and Prince. He has performed as percussionist for R/B artist Erykah Badu and Hip-Hop artist Common during the European leg of her tour.
To date Kahlil has traveled the world extensively doing what he loves and does best. His proficiency as a musician is often showcased in many of his solos performed in over 100 recordings. It is said , “ Drummers are the most sacred of the musicians, for they resonate the beat that is experienced by all!” Kahlil Kwame Bell brings percussion back to its proper place; UP FRONT and CENTER, as a FORCE to be reckoned with and definitely HEARD...!
